Like many major cities, Adelaide has its fair share of graffiti. Whatever your views on the artistic merits of this form of expression it’s fair to say that not everyone appreciates it and it is not going anywhere soon. The question is always one of how a city administration responds. In Adelaide, there is a recognition that there is a large amount of wall space in the central business district and someone is going to paint something on it. As a means of combatting graffiti, the city provides grants to young, emerging artists to create murals on walls that would otherwise be a target for graffiti. The end result is amazing.
